Heating Installation Guide: What Are Your Options?

by Feride Halma

Whether you're looking to install a new heating system or just want to update your current one, there are many different heating systems to choose from.

This article delves into the different types of heating systems to help guide your decision.

Forced Air Heating Systems

These heating systems are the most common variants on the market. For this system, a fuel-driven furnace heats up the air and sends it through ducts to your home. The furnace can either be gas-powered or electric, with a variety of different models to choose from.

One disadvantage of this heating system is that it can be noisy. So if you're looking for a quiet heating system, you may want to consider the other options on this list.

Radiant Heating Systems

Radiant heating systems use either hot water or steam to heat your home. The heated water circulates through pipes under the floor or inside walls to warm up a room.

This heating system is very efficient because it doesn't lose heat through ducts as furnaces do. It's also relatively quiet. However, radiant systems can be expensive to install and maintain. But they're worth the cost if you prefer a quiet system for your home or business.

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps use electricity to transfer heat from one place to another, either in or out of your home. In the winter, a heat pump can extract warmth from the air outside to warm up your home. Conversely, in the summer, this pump removes heat from your home and releases it outdoors to cool your home.

Heat pumps can be a great option if you want to save on your energy bill, as they run more efficiently than other heating systems. Furthermore, they double as cooling systems since you can use them to cool your home in the summer.

However, a heat pump can be more expensive to install and may not be the best option if you live in a much colder environment.

Which Heating System Is Right for You?

Now that you know a little about the different types of heating systems, it's time to decide which one is right for you.

Take for instance - furnaces and heat pumps. Furnaces use natural gas or propane to create heat, while heat pumps use electricity to move heat from one place to another. Furnaces are better at heating your home during cold weather. However, heat pumps are less effective in colder climates. But as mentioned earlier, you can use a heat pump to cool your home in the summer.

So if versatility is important to you, a heat pump would do just fine. But if you want high efficiency (for a cold-climate area), a furnace system would be an ideal choice.

The type of heating system you need boils down to several factors that an experienced heating installation technician can guide you through. But make sure only a qualified expert installs whichever option you prefer.
